Mike Martinz Photo's

This is a series of photos of a December 2004 trip to Queen Charlotte Island taken by Mike Martinz and friends of British Columbia. Mike was using the S2H1267 a 12’ 4pc 6/7 wt.

Well it is steelhead season again and I have been busy at the fly tying vise into the very early hours of the morning getting ready for the upcoming annual December Queen Charlotte Island trip. This December was truly exceptional with the weather and fish co-operating nicely, resulting in nearly 40 fish being hooked in 6 days of angling. Several of these fish were very nice, and all the fish landed were bright and full of life. Here are some of the highlights of the trip…

Dawn on the first day, snow and high cloud – steelhead paradise!

This 33.5” sea-fresh doe was landed after a brilliant battle
wading through a deep riffle with moss covered basaltic shelf rock
featuring many man sized holes to fall into! While the photo
does notshow the girth of the fish very well, this was oneof the
thickest steelhead I have seen, across its entire length.

This one was of 8 fish landed during a classic snow filled
steelheading day. Not the largest fish, but great sport on the
12’ R.B. Meiser 6/7 weight Spey Rod.

One of the bigger bucks caught on film for this
campaign. In this system the bucks are often very
colored, so this one was a treat being so fresh.

It was snowing very heavy at times, but the action did
not let up! Another nice chrome doe, and a superb fighter. Landing
of which was made possible by the subtle and delicate power
of the RB Meiser Spey rod.

This fish was one of the last fish of the trip, the weather fluctuated
between rain and snow and by the last day the river had risen
several feet. But fresh fish still were moving through the system
and were eager to slash at my flies.
