These are the finesse rods of the Switch Rod series. One of the most
enjoyable and productive fishing experiences one can find on the West
Coast is the Rogue/Klamath drainage "Half Pounder" run. These are 1 to
3 pound pre-adult Steelhead that annually enter the lower to mid
sections of the Rogue and Klamath Rivers. By mid to late summer these
big rivers may hold thousands of these bright scrappy Steelhead. Savvy
anglers have learned to fish these little rockets utilizing "Trouting"
techniques, as these fish are actively feeding on the rich entomology
found within these rivers. Swinging soft hackles, and streamers,
indicator nymph, and on occasion, dry fly presentations are all very
effective techniques. The System-2 and 4 Switch Rods were initially
developed to present to these superb fish.
They have since proved to be excellent multi-purpose small game fish fly
rods. Their 10'6" length allows for many long reach applications. They
will present exceptionally well from most any float device, pram, or
drift boat. They have the capability to throw large bushy dries into the
toughest winds, whether they be on rivers or stillwaters. Large
streamers, weighted nymphs or dry fly/indicator with nymph droppers are
all easily presented with the either the System-2 or the System-4. Spey
presentations to 60/70 ft. can easily be achieved if balanced to the
proper line system. This ability alone can open up long stretches of
water that previously may have been inaccessible to the conventional
overhead rod. Single or two handed over head deliveries will allow the
angler to easily reach in excess of 90'.
These are superb rods for pursuing large to medium sized Trout, and many
species of warm water game fish, with the capability to utilize a
diverse variety of fly presentations. These are without question the
most ideal rods to use for targeting bank prone Trout from the casting
station of a moving drift boat, using either overhead or anchor point
Spey deliveries.
All the rods within the Switch Rod series have an extremely relaxed yet
authoritative casting delivery that is an absolute joy to perform over a
long days fishing. These rods are no exception, in fact many have told
me over the years that these are the rods that they will usually reach
for when heading to challenging Trout or Small Mouth waters.
