The Trouter series was developed by request for fly fishers pursuing game fish over a broad spectrum of river sizes, within both coastal and interior river systems.
|
We were asked to develop a series of rods that would meet the following criteria: They would need to be extremely light in weight,
powerful rods that would not exceed 12'6" in length. They would need to have
the ability to present dry flies, wets, weighted nymphs and streamers. Fly rods that would have the ability to efficiently perform all of the classic
two-handed spey presentations with ease. .Reach workable fishing distances
in excess of 90 feet, and yet be able to load at short range to target
close-in fish. They would also require the ability to throw an accurate roll
cast presentation to the bank with a neutral drifted floating line, or long
mend an indicator, both from the front section of a drift boat.
The 4/5/6 and 6/7 weights make excellent Trout and Smallmouth Bass rods. The 6/7 and 7/8 wts will also make fine "transitional" Trouters
and light Steelhead/Salmon rods.
These rods will perform as well over the many cold water inter-mountain and coastal rivers, as they will on the warm and cold water
river systems of the Mid-west, East, and Southern tail waters. The same
presentation and technique advantage utilized by the anadromous fly fisher can easily and logically be adopted to meet the needs of the angler pursuing
large Trout and Smallmouth Bass.
When backed up into thick bank side riparian or burdened by steep banks where the back cast is not allowed, all of the Trouters will present
spey deliveries while using Bass bugs and big bushy Trout flies with ease.
Great rods for presenting to the Salmon Fly hatches found throughout our
Western river systems. The Trouters are also excellent tools for single and
two-handed high sticking, indicator nymph fishing, and two-handed overhead presentations if desired.
The spey cast is the most efficient means to deliver a fly when the conventional back-cast is not allowed, and the rods additional length
gives the angler exceptional mending and reach capabilities. The Trouters are as light in the hand as are many single-handed Trout rods, yet will
offer any angler the true two-handed advantage of the classic spey presentation.
All of the 12'6" and the 11'7" Trouters are fast progressives.
All are as light in the hand as a feather...But their lightness
in hand is deceptive: They are extremely powerful, true spey rods capable of
delivering all of the classic spey presentations with ease and with
total efficiency, capable of delivering a full range of short to
mid-length belly spey lines, and Skagit/Scandinavian style shooting
head line systems.
The angler's creativity is the only limit to the applications
of these rods.
All are suitable as Coastal Trouters: Ocean run Bulls, Dollies,
Browns, Cutthroat, Char. Or for our large interior river systems
for large Trout, and Smallmouth bass.
The 12'6" 5 pc 6/7 & 7/8 wt. and the 11'7" 5/6/7
will also make fine transitional Steelhead/Trouters, or small river
light Salmon rods.
